College and career education should start in elementary school and continue through middle and high school. At LeyVa Middle School we want our students to graduate with a solid foundational knowledge of different career fields and college options. We offer many college and career opportunities to LeyVa students throughout the year.

College and Career Club

Lunch Club "Cookies with the Counselor"

Students meet once a month with the school counselor who helps them complete an activity designed to enhance their awareness about different college and career related topics. Learn more about our lunch club and how to earn a cookie.

Field Trips

LeyVa Middle School offers a field trip to a university at the end of each school year. This trip is open to all students. The trip is part of LeyVa’s college and career lunch club called “Cookies with the Counselor.” To be eligible to participate in the April field trip, students must complete 7 college & career related activities offered through the lunch club. Field trips include tour of a university, such as Stanford or San Jose State, and enjoy on-campus dining for lunch. Students can also complete the activities at home and turn them in to the counselor to be eligible for the field trip. There is no cost to attend the field trip. See the counselor for details.

College and Career Days

Each year, Leyva hosts a school-wide College & Career Day event in honor of Santa Clara County’s annual College Day.

On October 18, 2019, professionals from 18 careers came to LeyVa to speak to students. Students chose their top two professions to learn about then rotated into a college education seminar held by Silicon Valley Education Foundation. The day started with an inspiring speech by Evergreen School District superintendent Dr. Emy Flores. Leyva was chosen as the spotlight school for College Day 2020. This event will give students the same opportunities along with a speech from the Mayor of San Jose!
