Positive Prevention Programs
Too Good for Drugs (TGFD)
TGFD for middle school students is a school-based drug prevention program designed to reduce students' intention to use alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs, while promoting prosocial attitudes, skills and behaviors. The program seeks to build the self-confidence of students so they are better able to make healthy choices and achieve success. This program is taught by LeyVa's Physical Education Department.
HIV/AIDS Positive Prevention
Program materials developed by the American Red Cross are presented to 7th grade students during the month of May/June as part of the science curriculum. In addition to a presentation, an HIV/AIDS video is shown describing the impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals and family life. It identifies the myths and stereotypes regarding persons infected with HIV and emphasizes compassion and concern for persons infected with HIV. Parents are invited to a preview of the HIV/AIDS Positive Prevention Program prior to student's attending this program.
